MetraTech Declares Breakthrough Results in Billing Performance Benchmark
Metratech was incorporated in 1997 and creates 4th Generation Business Support Systems (BSS) for telecommunications, transport, finance and municipal charging based on Dynamic Business Modeling (DBM). Dynamic Business Modeling theorizes that the primary function of an enterprise application is to automate on-the-fly business models instead of only delivering pre-automated fixed models.
This benchmark tested the MetraNet billing software running on HP ProLiant servers with Windows server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. It was simulating 300 million accounts each using high-volume services.
• Rating & Pricing – 84,781 usage records per second, with each record inserted into an indexed database
• Billing – 669 bills/second, with an average of 300 events per bill
• Balance Updates – 1.2 billion/hour, including event de-duplication, with each event updating an existing balance in an indexed database.
Terry McGuigan, Managing Director of the Communications Sector at Microsoft Corporation said:
“Now, more than ever, service providers are operating under competitive pressures and need to find new ways to offer value added services to their subscribers more quickly. As a result, demand is increasing for flexible billing platforms able to support a high volume of customers and a new level of complexity demanded by today’s changing business models. In this benchmark, MetraTech has proven that its billing solution can support next-generation services and meet the requirements of the most demanding telecom billing environments.”
The study utilized requirements for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) billing services. The endorsement of Microsoft in supporting their ability to handle the next-generation of demands on billing will certainly boost Metratech.
